SUMMER

Hey, everyone! I’m sorry I’ve been so MIA recently! It’s been so crazy here with finals, friends, functions…haha and family…see a pattern? πŸ˜‰ Anyway I am officially finished with my Junior year of college…how WEIRD is that? I wish time would slow down but at the same time I am so excited for all that is ahead! Especially this summer. Summer is my all time favorite season. Personally I believe I grow the most during the summers. Probably because I can make my own schedule, be with my family and really focus on the things I want to focus on.

I’ve been thinking a lot about what I want this blog to look like, be about this summer and I have a few exciting ideas so I’ll keep you posted (literally through posts) hehe! I’ve been learning so much about myself these past few weeks by really focusing on what I want my day to be like each morning and it is AMAZING what thoughts can do change your outlook or mood on a day. I know you’ve probably heard that but have you ever TRIED it? Seriously try it! In vision your day, your goals and the things you want become more realistic. All about discipline:)

Here are a few summer goals I have in mind: (I’m sure I’ll post a more in depth version later today or tomorrow!)

-Get my miles back up, specifically 6 miles every morning. Many of you know that I ran my first Half Marathon in Feb. It was one of the greatest experiences of my life! Since then I have continued running but have not kept my miles up so I am looking forward to laying out a schedule to do so! My house is only about 2 miles from Katy Trail and a goal of mine this summer is to run to the Katy Trail, run a little at the Katy Trail and come home!

-Blog more…:) Most summers this is easy!

-Read 5 (or MORE) books!

-Take Summer Online classes seriously………this will be difficult haha!

-Cook more! I want to learn more recipes this summer. As many of you might have seen I am a ToneItUp team member and loving every second! I plan on following their nutrition plan all summer to continue my healthy lifestyle!

-Enjoy time with my family (this isn’t really a goal but more of a “Yay, I’m excited for this type thing πŸ™‚

I’m sure I’ll think of more but this is it so far! I believe goals are the key to setting standards for yourself, bettering yourself and PUSHING yourself to be the best YOU possible!

Dad on a BIG ride last week! So proud of him…:)

Beautiful Dallas Morning

Good morning everyone! Today is going to be absolutely beautiful!! I’m having a little cup of coffee before a morning walk with my Mom. Why is spring so perfect? seriously?? It is so gorgeous and my FAVORITE time of the year. Everything is alive and blossoming. When I grow up I need to find a forever spring kind of place to live. Sunshine all the time. This week I have been pretending like I’m done with school which is probably a terrible idea for when I dive back into finals this next week….ew. BUT I can almost taste summer, especially mornings like this one. I am so thankful for my time at home to recharge and just be. My family is the greatest part of my life so I love being with them…missing Whitney though:) It’s going to be a great weekend!

I hope this weekend you get out and enjoy yourself! Head to a park, see a play, go swimming, just do something for YOU! πŸ™‚

Home for Easter

I am finally home. Nothing better than this feeling. Yesterday Whitney, Dad and I hit up the Katy Trail. I think I might have over done it by running home instead of driving back with them…woke up with my left hip hurting:( regardless I’ll probably fit some yoga in today or exercise of some sort! It’s going to be too pretty of a day not to:)

Today is Good Friday. The day that Jesus was crucified on the cross. For me. For every single wrong I have ever committed, every single ugly thought I have had, every poor decision I’ve ever made. All for me. Even if I had been the only person in the world He still would have bridged the gap from heaven to earth. Wow. I am overwhelmed this morning with the love of Jesus. As we are surrounded by the ones we love this Easter weekend, think of Christ smiling on us. He has already won the battle, it is our job to be faithful and live as though the battle is won. I hope that you will take some time to be still and think of all he has done for you. The cross is enough though, isn’t it? I hope to have that at the forefront of my mind today. Thank you Jesus.

This video is my favorite every year. Hope is here and Hope has WON! Thank you, Jesus!

It’s Friday but Sunday’s comin’

A week until my time in paradise

I’m pretty much freaking out today because I’m one week (and one exam) away from PARADISE! This time next week the family and I, will be flying to LA for a quick stop (yay) and then back on a plane to Honolulu, Hawaii!Β  We will be in Honolulu for a few days and then off to Maui! I can’t wait for all of the adventures coming our way! Seriously the thought of laying out by the pool, surfing, walking on the beach, ahhhhh just makes me SMILE! I don’t want to ramble too much before the trip cause I can only imagine how much I’ll have to say after so here are a few of my plans while in paradise:

  • Relaxing <– DUH! I’m taking book requests!
  • Surfing..I’m not a first timer but definitely no expert, it will be a blast to have Whitney and Trav with me this time and my Dad, who’s pretty much a pro! Mom might just watch….for sharks πŸ˜‰
  • Hiking! There are gorgeous hiking trails right outside our villas..this will be a must!
  • Shopping…we will probably have to make a day out of this one!
  • Swimming (pool and ocean)
  • Possible a few bike rides πŸ™‚
  • Whale watching from our beach!

Here’s where I need your help! Any book requests? I could probably go through at least 3! I’d also like to apologize ahead of time for blowing up your twitter next week with instagram pictures…I’m sure to be a slave to my camera with all the beauty in the islands!

The Journey to: My First Half Marathon

Currently Listening to: ‘Hard To Believe,’ by: Andy Davis

Currently Watching: Baylor Mens Basketball

Current Mood: Extremely content, moved by support, accomplished, proud, FINISHED the race!

Friday of RACE WEEKEND: I am SO excited for this weekend! I’m headed home to Dallas to see my cousin sworn in as a LAWYER! Yay Stephanie! I can’t wait to be with the family and celebrate. Tomorrow is the day I’ve been training for since, well I guess around Christmas! My first half marathon! Dad and I are going to go for it even though my hip isn’t 100% good. I think it will be just fine though for the race. I am so excited! I feel like this is such a milestone for me. This past summer I had an amazing spiritual and physical revolution and this half marathon just shows God’s faithfulness in all things. I can’t wait to sing His praises all 13.1 MILES!

Saturday of RACE WEEKEND: Yesterday was such a wonderful day! Fam was able to be present as my cousin Stephanie was sworn in as a LAWYER! All of her hard work has paid off. My Papa had arranged the sweetest time together at Y.O. Ranch Steak House downtown. It was a fun dinner with the family along with one of Stephanie’s friends and the judge who swore her in! Papa planned a little welcome and Dad even gave a benediction prayer over Stephanie at the end of dinner…truly AMAZING!

The RACE: This morning my alarm went off at 5:45 (finally! I tossed and turned all night!) Dad and I were in McKinney by 7, we were able to stretch, check out the finish and starting line, and even catch up with some McKinney friends who were running as well! It was VERY cold and even a little rainy the first few miles, but it was perfect running weather by the end! I wore long sleeves and kept my (lulu;) ) jacket on the whole race. I can’t explain to you how much this journey has altered my life and lifestyle. And the best part is it was never a journey I really planned on, it’s not like last year I thought, “I want to be a runner!” or even “I’m going to run a half marathon!” My healthy lifestyle came after Christ gave me a wake up call from a lifestyle that was not honoring him or my body (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). I began walking every morning of last summer as a time to pray and be awake before the rest of the world. Little did I know that God was guiding this and growing my discipline as he would later reveal his plan for me to do this half marathon! I can not be more thankful and I am so so excited for all that is to come through my new found love: RUNNING! πŸ™‚

“Who, being loved, is poor?” ~ Oscar Wilde

This amazing picture was taken by my sweet little brother, thanks Travis! Enjoy!Everyone loves love on Valentines. Don’t you agree? As young kids we’ve even been programmed to love it and in later years perhaps trained to dread it. This year it is neither extreme in my heart. Without having a “significant other” this year, I am able to join in on the excitement of roommates with plans or just be able to sit back and watch others enjoy this holiday. (Which I don’t care who you are but Hallmark didn’t just make it up! Hehe!) I would like to touch on what this holiday may mean to some of us without a “Valentine,” (I have a few that have asked not to be named…Dad..cough cough…Papa…cough cough) I think today is yet another day to smile and think of what is to come in life. Perhaps, you’re feeling frustrated because plans are falling through, or the one you had hoped to be with today doesn’t have those same feelings, or maybe your just too busy to take time for silly love antics. Whatever it may be, today is a beautiful day to think of all those people in your life that you love deeply. I know I am thankful for my parents, who have modeled love so beautifully to Whitney, Travis and I. Thank you Mom and Dad, Papa and Gramma, and Grandmother and Granddaddy. Each of these couples are examples of lasting marriages that will forever play a role in my own, through the things I learned, watching them love one another.

And to my future forever valentine, I love you deeply already.

Motivational Monday!

I am so excited for what this week holds! No test…HORRAY but still will be keeping up with tons of homework and also preparing for my half marathon this weekend! AH! Please pray for my hip, it’s been hurting me for maybe two weeks now? Not unbearable pain but surely it won’t enjoy 13.1 miles so please pray for healing before Saturday! I woke up this morning and when I peeked outside it seems like it has been cold and rainy! I often let my mood be determined by the weather (that’s why I am such a summer girl) but today I’m chosing to find my own sunshine in the rain! I hope you’ll join me! Nothing like have a positive attitude to kick off the week! Happy and healthy Emily πŸ™‚ Here’s somethings that have already brightened my morning!

Cheers to the Weekend

This weekend was GREAT! It went by so quick and all of its blurred together because so much was going on! Friday I went and got a massage in hopes to loosen up. Many of you know I am training for a half and it was going great until I became really tight recently..SO annoying to not be able to run but I’m going to try to get back on training schedule today since the race is coming up…on the 18th! Anyway we had pledge dance on Friday night..”Me and you and wine and blue”. The theme was opposites attracts so naturally my date and I were fat and fit haha! Kevin wore 10 pounds of pillows and I was honestly worried about him by the end because it was KILLER hot…luckily he didn’t pass out! It was fun hanging out with my roommate, BriAnn (check out her blog here) and her boyfriend Tim that night, they’re a very cool couple! πŸ™‚

Saturday morning was rough. Woke up around 7 to attempt the scheduled 12 miles but ended up doing about 9 because my leg was hurting me so 😦 Praying for quick healing! Anyway around 10 we went to KOT fishery, probably one of my favorite days! It’s an event that the fraternity KOT puts on at Baylor where people with special needs come (from ALL over) to hang out with a buddy for the day. It’s basically a carnival atmosphere and I am always amazed at how different all of these people are. So unique and special. You can’t leave without feeling blessed. My buddy was Herbert. Isn’t that name adorable? He walked straight up to me and said, “You go fishing with me?” Last year he said he didn’t catch anything so this year we were determined! He was so happy because we caught TWO fish:) One thing I noticed about him was how positive he was, SO sweet. After the 1st fish he said, “I am happy with this one fish,” and with the second one he said, “I’m good with two fish.” Always content and so precious! I love you Herbert!

Saturday night we went to Fuji to celebrate Ramie’s birthday! It was delicious but if you’re wondering..tempura means fried, which I didn’t know until my veggies came out…fried haha. Tell Ramie Happy Birthday here! It was a great time with sweet friends. Sunday topped the weekend off with lots of studying and the Super Bowl. All in all it was a great weekend, not quite a relaxing one but I feel as energized and excited for this week as ever! Have to knock out a few tests but later in the week I’ll be able to really relax. I hope YOU had a great weekend as well!

β€œCharm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised.”-Proverbs 31:30

HAPPY BIRTHDAY RAMIE!

As Ramie’s aka Puppy’s birthday quickly approaches I wanted to give everyone an easy opportunity to celebrate her! So PLEASE leave a comment with your favorite Ramie memory/quote/story whatever you think up when the name Ramie Baker comes to mind..here are a few of mine.

1.Ramie still needs someone to read her a bedtime story..Whitney, BriAnn and I usually rock-paper-scissor it to see whose turn it is. She normally has us change all the animals to chickens and she suggests that the main characters name is always Ramie.

2. Ramie still LOVES stuffed animals. I’m on a mission to find her a chicken stuffed animal…it would only be appropriate. She currently decorates her bed with a deformed Santa and by deformed I mean he is missing an arm, probably an incident initiated by Ramie taping him to a ceiling fan when the pandas were attacking…strange, I know.

3.When Ramies car randomly breaks down or becomes schizophrenic she gets in her wagon and heads off to class! Most of the time there are boys in line hoping they can be her escort to class…you think I’m kidding πŸ˜‰

4. If the wagon doesn’t work out she can always hope on her horse and get there just as quick! Not to mention cowboys LOVE that, which of course brings a BIG smile to Ramie!

5.Ramie has always lived by the motto, “MODEST IS HOTTEST!” Example A is this floating devise…very fashion forward for her age, not to mention Sebastian and Ariel chilling with the goggle wearer! Anyway, we live this motto out at Tres Grande by enforcing a strong dress code.

Here is an example of a normal, M.I.H outfit!—>

Ramie started living with Whitney, BriAnn and I this past year, I was never worried about the new roomie, but I was curious to see how she would work into our dynamics and can I just say that NO one could have come in and filled that room as well as Ramie has. She has brought so much laughter, joy, smiles, inside jokes, late nights, heart-felt hugs (with occasional kisses) and endless bear trail walks as I finally have a buddy that likes to rehash events as much as I do! My few words will never do our relationship justice, but just as I was becoming weary of school and hesitations of moving back to Waco after an amazing summer, God placed a gift into my life in the form of her, and I will never be the same.

I love that Ramie is full of curiosity and genuinely needs to know what’s going on;) She is very perceptive and can quickly tell when a friend is in need. Empathy melts out of her as her heart reaches for people in need, who are lost, or those that simply are in need of a friend. In many ways I have found things in Ramie that perhaps no other friend has given me and while those things can not be written out for all to understand may I just say that when I am in need I have a friend in you. I love you Ramie, I am thrilled that for the first time I get to celebrate your birthday with you. I hope I am with you for many more. Thanking God for our friendship Puppy.

PS Puppy and Chicken forever

Motivational Mornings

Currently listening to: ‘Love Came Down’ by Kari Jobe

I don’t know if there is anyone who loves mornings quite like me. Waking up refreshed with a completely clean slate for this day is the best feeling in the world! You can go to sleep knowing a new day is coming tomorrow and the worries of this one will be gone. Not to mention it’s Monday: Bachelor tonight;). But seriously I really try to treasure my quiet mornings before the craziness that may find me that day. I woke this morning extremely early to go on run, until I checked the temp..YIKES! I can’t wait for spring and summer morning temperatures…my favorite seasons! SO instead I have filled my morning with coffee, quiet time and the pure bliss of having tons of free time before my first class! I hope you have had a wonderful and productive morning as well! This morning when I was catching up on my twitter and blog updates I was reminded of my Dads sermon yesterday @PCBC through his twitter…I love both of these tweets but the second one really resonated with me…”Let your light shine-for the greater good of EVERYONE in your life today!” What a positive and beautiful picture! Let every person who comes into contact with you today leave feeling better about themselves and curious to where your joy comes from! We’ve got today! No promises of tomorrow, not even a promise of this afternoon, so why not CHOOSE happiness and joy! Whatever problems you have woken up to let them melt away, turn your thoughts to Christ and He will shine His light through you!

“She will have no fear of bad news; her heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord.”-Psalm 112:7

Let this be said of me today God, that whatever today holds my heart would not be shaken but firmly planted in you so that even in trials I am confident and can continually boast in you!

Here are a few pictures from my weekend in Dallas, a great time of renewal and rest before lots of tests coming up!
